A Mission Statement for Living

Work Or PlayLiving this wonderful thing called life I find myself frustrated at times. People are always talking about a ‘balanced lifestyle’, you should have your work time and your personal time. It is difficult for me to find the line between those two areas of one’s life. When I am having ‘personal time’ I might find inspiration from a conversation or a new acquaintance that helps e find a solution to a current work issue. One the flip side my friends and family are never far from my focus on what I am working on and if anyone who falls into those two categories need me, work is put on hold and I balance in some personal time.

Quote to Live By

At my previous employer my boss gave me a quote that he believed puts the balance of life in perspective and I adopted that quote immediately. The quote is from the late James Michener

“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion.

He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing.

To him he’s always doing both.”

I believe that you should live your life for yourself and your work should be part of you. Look at the most successful people[as defined in business] and you will see people who live each day for what it brings. They do not say, ‘geesh I have to do some work today’. They have integrated work into their lives to where to everyone else we do not know if it is labor or leisure.

A-List bloggers

havestWhen people look to blogging to make money they look at what A-list bloggers have and say ‘I wish I could make money by sitting on my duff and posting a few post a day.’ What new bloggers cannot separate is that their is labor and leisure in the successful bloggers day. I am not saying that is it all leisure, but for a majority of them they do labor some, but they are mainly harvesting the fruits of long past days filled with much labor. Although some A-List bloggers might complain that they have a tough day, which cashquest.com rebuts in a 5 point post.

One needs to find harmony with what ones does in life to make a living, that harmony will allow one to work to live, not live to work. How about you? Have you been able to find balance in your life? How much does blogging throw that balance off?

I’m working on finding that balance with my blog. Some days the ideas just flow and I can do two days worth of posts in one sitting. Others, I spend all afternoon trying to come up with one post idea. The best is when the ideas come to me out of the blue, then I can sit down for a few minutes and type them up and move on to other activities.

Totally agree on this one. There always needs to be a balance.

Finding a balance is easier said than done, particularly if you’re someone that is an insomniac.
